Fraud Alert!
At MotorTrader, Nigeria we are aware that there are people out there determined to sell or buy stolen vehicles or vehicles that are not up to a true representation of what you see in the listings. Below are the way we are working to ensure the cars listed on this website are all legitimate:
MotorTrader, Nigeria Audits
On a daily basis, our staff carry out several audits to ensure our cars are not just safe to buy, but that the Dealers and Private Sellers consistently provide accurate details about thier vehicles for sale. In cases where we are not happy with listings, the concerned Dealer or Private Seller is first written to. If that does not sole the proble, we remove the listing alltogether. Below is a list of the checks we carry out daily:
Systematic check of vehicle description in relation to price, milleage and overall vehicle description.
We checking to make sure that all imported cars retain their Plate Numbers until Nigerian Plate Numbers have been acquired. This helps to ensure Internation Police Authorities are able to check listed cars against thier databases.
In Partnership with Police Authorities.
We are currently making efforts to involve the Nigerian Police in our
resolve to ensure stolen cars are not listed on this website. In future, we hope to be able to provide the Nigerian and International Police Authorities with un restricted access to our vehicle database so they car search them routinely against their records of stolen vehicle - http://www.police.gov.ng.
Our nessage to Buyers is that they must be wise in choosing a car to buy and if an offer is too good to be true, it most probably is.

INTERPOL
The Interpol General Secretariat has developed the Automated Search Facility-Stolen Motor Vehicle (ASF-SMV) database to support police in member countries in the fight against international vehicle theft and trafficking. End of December 2008, the database held more than 4.6 million records of reported stolen motor vehicles. Close to 151 countries use the database regularly, of whom 122 countries share their national stolen vehicle database records with INTERPOL. In 2008 more than 31,000 motor vehicles have been discovered worldwide through the ASF-SMV database, 6,000 hits less than in 2007.
